The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) is asking for public submissions on a proposal to build a titanium mine near the mid-west Western Australian town of Dongara.
Minerals company Tiwest plans to transport the titanium mined from the site, about 25 kilometres south-east of Dongara, to its processing plant in Muchea.
A review has been prepared by the company which outlines the impact the $50 million project will have on the environment.
The mine is expected to have a life span of up to 17 years and produce about eight million tonnes of titanium per year.
The company says it will need to clear more than 1,300 hectares of land to build the mine.
